Report: Ex-Celtics guard Kemba Walker set for NBA return originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Kemba Walker’s period of unemployment is about to end.
The Dallas Mavericks plan to sign the free-agent guard and waive Facundo Campazzo in a corresponding move, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Monday morning.
Walker played just 37 games for the New York Knicks during the 2021-22 season and was traded to the Detroit Pistons over the summer. The Pistons waived him on Oct. 17, however, and he has yet to play in a game this season.
Kemba’s message for Tatum, Brown is paying dividends for Celtics
It appears that’s about to change, as Walker will provide point guard depth behind superstar Luka Doncic in Dallas.
Walker hasn’t found much success since suffering a knee injury that nagged him throughout much of his two seasons with the Boston Celtics from 2019 to 2021. The 32-year-old averaged 19.9 points and 4.8 assists per game in Boston but played in just 99 contests over those two seasons.
Walker was a fan favorite and excellent locker room presence, though, so Celtics fans will be rooting for him to find success with the Mavs.
