Man United 0-2 Brighton – Premier League LIVE: Disaster for Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils’ awful week goes from bad to worse with Pascal Gross doubling the Seagulls’ lead at Old Trafford

Huge chance for Manchester United! Hojlund picks up the ball in the middle of the pitch, beats his defender and finds Rashford on the wing. Rashford collects it in stride and breaks into the box. He looks to unleash a rocket but hits the side netting. He defintely went for power over accuracy there.

Brighton get another chance! But Onana does well to collect it. The low cross came into the box. Brighton looked to attack it but missed the ball – giving Onana the chance to get a hand on it.

Another chance for United and yep, you guessed it! It started with Rashford. He ran down the byline before cutting back inside. He plays it on to Hojlund – but it was just behind the new boy.

Strong start from Brighton! Martinez does well to step in before Welbeck caused any more issues for the Red Devils.

United then break on the counter, with Casemiro picking up the ball and looking to play forwards. However, his pass is intercepted.

Here we go! We are back underway at Old Trafford. It is Manchester United who get things going. They will be looking to claw their way back into the game early on.

And… just like that, the half time whistle has gone. It is Brighton who head into the break with the advantage. It was Danny Welbeck’s shot who seperated the two teams.

Manchester United are calling for a penalty! Hojlund is taken down in the penalty box and they believe a spot kick should be given. But, it’s been checked and no penalty awarded.

Rashford is on fire this afternoon! He’s unplayable when he is in one of these moods. He comes close to scoring again. His shot from inside the box goes just wide of the post.

Three minutes of stoppage time has been added on. No surprise considering the lengthy VAR check on United’s disallowed goal.

Fernandes plays the ball towards the back post but his delivery isn’t great. Brighton regain possession and the Red Devils set a high press. Not long to go in the first half!

GOAL IS DISALLOWED! VAR deemed the ball out of play when Marcus Rashford made the pass. Hojlund will be disappointed but… one thing is clear, Rashford is looking dangerous.

The goal is being checked! They believe the ball went out of play when Marcus Rashford made the cross. And… looking at the pictures, I can’t see the goal standing.

MANCHESTER UNITED FIND THE BACK OF THE NET! Hojlund found the back of the net to equalise for the Red Devils and open his United account on his full debut.

Casemiro is in trouble once again. He latched onto a loose ball before clipping Lallana after the Brightonman took the ball back off him.

The ref took a while to think about that one, but it was a clear foul. Not good for United or Casemiro. He really looks off the pace today.

Panic over for the United fans. Rashford is back on his feet and able to continue. That’s good news for the Red Devils as he’s looking confident down that left side.

United respond well and head down the other end to create a chance of their own. Rashford was at the heart of the attack once again but this time hit the woodwork.

His shot was deflected and hit the post. However, Rashford appeared to slip afterwards and seems to be in pain – he’s down holding onto his knee.

Another chance for Brighton and it’s Welbeck once again! He’s just unleashed a rocket from about 30 yards out but couldn’t keep it on target.

You can’t fault Scott McTominay’s work rate but his 30 yard leads aren’t working. He needs a hand from his team-mates in the middle of the pitch. United just look disconnected at the moment…

Casemiro is dispossed in the middle of the pitch. He picked up the ball well and turned but they dwelled too long before being tackled. He looked particularly leggy tracking back too. Not good.

Manchester United have really dropped off in pace. Their midfield line is incredibly static. Onana is urging his team-mates to up the tempo as he looks for options.

Brighton are playing with real confidence now. They are playing it around the back comfortably and choosing their moments to go forwards. There is so much rotation within the Brighton squad and United’s press is being forced to chase them from side to side.

Chance for Manchester United! Rashford was convinced he was going to score. He recieved the ball just a few yards out after a lovely cut inside from Dalot.

However, Brighton did well to scramble and get a block in. Rashford couldn’t believe his eyes!

Another yellow card has been dished out. This time it goes to Van Hecke as the referee believes he is wasting time at a goal-kick. That means two out of Brighton’s back four are on a yellow card.

Brighton find the back of the net! It goes against the run of play but Welbeck puts the visitors ahead in the 19th minute of the game.

Welbeck played the ball out wide to Adingra – who worked his way into the box. Welbeck continued his run and was left unmarked. As a result, he recieved the ball back at the penalty spot and slotted it in from close range.

15mins: That was a hairy moment for the United fans! Lindelof and Onana decided to play a little one-two in the box. But, that is why Erik ten Hag brought the goalkeeper in… they wanted someone that was comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Brighton get out of their own half for the first time this afternoon. They made the most of the fact United are committing bodies forward. However, the Seagulls coulnd’t capitalise on their counter attack as Lallana miss controlled the ball on the edge of the box.

Great start from United. They are dominating possesion and having a lot of success in the middle of the pitch. They are connecting well with each other but just need the finish their chances. Brighton are holding on!

Rashford looks extremely sharp but United are utlimately denied by the flag. The England international unleashed a rocket towards goal but his shot was blocked. It feel to Reguilon – who cut back nicely. But, the flag went up.

Another chance for United! Hojlund came extremely close to opening his account once again. However, he couldn’t quite connect with Rashford’s pass from the left.

Credit where credit is due though, that whole opportunity came from a lovely bit of skill from Eriksen in the middle. He turned his players beautifully and broke towards the edge of the box.

Another chance for Manchester United. This time it comes from Rasmus Hojlund. He did well to rise above his defender and get a head on the ball but it floated just over the bar.

Chance for Manchester United. It comes from Marcus Rashford. The England international danced past three players to make his way into the box. However, the angle was tight and he couldn’t quite get the power he needed behind it.

Amrabat, Mount, Shaw and Heaton can all be seen sitting in the directors box. They will be frustrated they are missing this game… that’s for sure.

Tariq Lamptey is awarded the first yellow card of the game for a challenge on Dalot. Dalot is aboustely furious but I think a yellow is a little harsh – espcially this early in the game.

Good start from Manchester United. Very fiesty game and I expect that will continue. Lovely footwork from Scott McTominay on the righthand side of the pitch. He will be eager to prove his worth today.

Brighton have come out of the block firing. They are asserting their dominance physically – giving Hojlund a shove in the opening minute of the game.

And… just like that, things at Old Trafford are underway! It is Brighton who start the proceedings today. The Seagulls will be looking to continue their fine form. While the Red Devils will be looking to turn their fortunes around this afternoon.

Atmosphere ramping up here. Brighton fans very noisy as kick-off approaches. In the home end we’ve had a first rendition of ‘We want Glazers out’ – expect more of that today.

Harry Maguire was back in the firing line in England’s win over Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday night, and was mocked by home fans before he scored an own-goal after coming on as a half-time substitute.

Maguire – who has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United and lost his captaincy at the club – received even more abuse after the international friendly ended.

It comes after he was banished from the first team squad amid his ongoing feud with manager Erik ten Hag.

The 23-year-old has refused to back down over their disagreement, with the Dutch manager becoming incensed by Sancho’s comments on social media that effectively branded Ten Hag a liar.

Well, Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been ruled out of this afternoon’s game against Brighton due to injury.

The deadline day loan signing from Fiorentina pulled out of the Morocco squad due to injury last week.

United were aware Amrabat had a slight problem with his back but still allowed him to join up with his national side.

Sancho is being made to train on his own at the academy facilities at Carrington after accusing Ten Hag of lying about the reasons behind his absence at Arsenal a fortnight ago and claiming to be a scapegoat.

Ten Hag is said to be furious at Sancho and is demanding an apology, but the player has refused to say sorry.

“Strict lines is what the club asked me because there was no good culture before last season so to set good standards, that is what I did and it is my job to control the standards.

“It is never someone makes one mistake, it is a whole process before you come to a certain outcome about strict lines. There is a structure to cross lines so you have to be strong.”

“I have said many times, it is disrespectful, doesn’t deserve it, he is a great player, gives great performances. It is crazy but how it works. Harry has to block this.”

Rasmus Hojlund is finally starting for Manchester United this afternoon. However, it’s not the first time has featured for United.

Having previously being ruled out by injury following his £72m move to United, Hojlund marked his debut as he came off the bench to replace Anthony Martial in the second-half of United’s clash with Arsenal.

The Danish striker displayed glimpses of his quality at the Emirates Stadium and Gary Neville believes he could be the answer to United’s long search for a prolific striker.

Well, I wasn’t expecting Reguilon to start. I felt Erik ten Hag would go for Wan-Bissaka this afternoon. While Pellistri’s absence from the starting XI is somewhat predictable.

Much like Man United and Bruno Fernandes… Brighton will be looking to Pascal Gross for success this afteroon. He has scored six Premier League goals against Manchester United, including both in the 2-1 win at Old Trafford last season.

Brighton could hit the headlines this evening by equalling a club record of scoring in 16 successive away league matches, first set in League One between August 2009 and February 2010.

Man United aren’t the only team looking to make a mark this evening. Brighton are seeking successive Premier League away wins for the first time since a run of three between November and January last season.

Manchester United are desperate to turn their form around. They will look to Bruno Fernandes to help them with that. He has scored four and set up two of the past eight goals scored by United against Brighton.

United are used to winning at Old Trafford but that hasn’t stopped them from being beaten before. Their last home loss was by 1-0 against Real Sociedad in the Europa League on 8 September 2022.

The Red Devils have gone 31 games – which is more than a year – without defeat at Old Trafford, winning 27 and drawing four in all competitions.

Additionally, Man United are closing in on their ninth consecutive league win at Old Trafford, which would be their longest run since a 12-match streak in 2012-13.

United will be looking to find the back of the net sharpish this afternoon. The Red Devils have scored just once in their four previous clashes with Brighton in all competitions. Plus, the one time they did find the back of the net came from an own goal by Alexis Mac Allister in this fixture last year.

Well… it’s safe to say, Manchester United don’t have the best record when it comes to Brighton at the moment. Manchester United have lost their past three league games against Brighton – including last season’s corresponding fixture, which was Erik ten Hag’s first match in charge.
