Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace – Premier League LIVE: Old Trafford is silenced by Joachim Andersen’s wonder goal! Defender smashes sensational first-time effort past a helpless Andre Onana
Follow Mail Sport’s live blog for all the latest as Manchester United host Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace
That’s better from the hosts as they win a corner with just over five minutes until the break.
It was headed on by Casemiro at the near post and it runs wide at the back post. He timed his dart to the ball nicely there but couldn’t quite glance it home.
Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace
Palace want more here and they win a corner. Eze pays it short to Hughes, then crosses but it’s Bruno Fernandes who hooks it away.
Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace
A pause in play here because Marcus Rashford took a blow to the head and needs the concussion checks.
Aside from that Casemiro chance just after they’d conceded, it hasn’t exactly been a big response to falling behind by United.
Rashford fit and fine to continue.
Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace
Just watching a replay of that Andersen goal – the delivery from the free-kick on the right by Eze was such that it bounced and skidded across to Andersen in space at the back post after he’d wriggled away from his marker.
But the finish was exceptional, across Onana and into the top corner.
Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace
Will Hughes becomes the second man into the book this afternoon.
Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace
United almost grabbed an instant equaliser as Casemiro shoots wide from a good position. But it’s the travelling Palace supporters in the corner of Old Trafford making all the noise at the moment.
GOAL! Man United 0-1 Crystal Palace – Joachim Andersen 26mins
What a superb goal for a defender! A cushioned volley by Joachim Andersen of all people right into the top corner of the net after Eberechi Eze had delivered a right-sided free-kick deep into the United box.
Old Trafford absolutely stunned by that as Palace make a surprise breakthrough from an unlikely source.
Remarkably, that is the first time Palace have scored before half-time all season and they’ll most certainly take it.
Man United 0-0 Crystal Palace
Midway through the first half and we await our breakthrough goal at Old Trafford.
United on top just about as the rain teems down in Manchester. Their best moment came when Rasmus Hojlund skipped clear and took the ball around keeper Sam Johnstone with Tyrick Mitchell needed to clear it away from danger.
Man United 0-0 Crystal Palace
That’s a little loose from Varane on the wet surface at Old Trafford as he tried to make a pass into Casemiro. Mateta is alert and intercepts it, but United recover.
Man United 0-0 Crystal Palace
Chance for United as Hojlund lets fly from the edge of the box, ignoring the better option of Rashford to his left. It came after Doucoure was robbed of the ball by Mount following a Palace free-kick. Well off target from the Dane.
Man United 0-0 Crystal Palace
Rashford causing trouble for Palace with his fancy feet. He forced his way through and was about to shoot but Guehi got across and deflected it out for a corner.
Mount delivers it to the far post, finding Raphael Varane but he directs it off target.
Joachim Andersen out wide and he whipped in a really tempting cross that Marc Guehi can only steer wide. He’ll believe he could have done better.
Down the other end, United nearly score. It takes a magnificent goalline clearance by Tyrick Mitchell after Rasmus Hojlund had managed to round Sam Johnstone and shoot.
Great covering defending and we might have seen an opener at both ends!
Man United 0-0 Crystal Palace
Amrabat gets caught on the ball and Jordan Ayew robs him of the ball and drives into space. Casemiro wasn’t prepared to see him burst free and slides in on the tackle. The Brazilian claims he got the ball but it will be a free-kick.
And Casemiro is shown a yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh and that’s very early to be getting one.
He was sent off in this same fixture last season.
Man United 0-0 Crystal Palace
A much-altered and are familiar Palace line-up here this afternoon compared to that dismal loss in midweek. But much will depend on getting the ball out to Ayew, Schlupp and Eze because United can be susceptible to pace.
United on the attack, with Rashford and Mount combining and numbers committing forward from the back.
The move leads to Diogo Dalot crossing from the right looking for Hojlund in the middle, but keeper Sam Johnstone, facing his old club of course, collects well.
Man United 0-0 Crystal Palace
United bossing the possession in the early stages and Marcus Rashford’s first involvement is a nice touch and turn of pace to break away from Will Hughes.
Palace make a hash of their clearance and only invite further pressure with Amrabat enjoying the first tussle of many with Ayew.
Kick-off: We’re off and running at Old Trafford
Here we go, then. Can Crystal Palace put in a better account of themselves than they did in the Carabao Cup in midweek? Are Manchester United back on the right track following a difficult start to the season.
All will be revealed over the next 90 minutes.
United in their traditional red, white and black colours. They’ve lost the pre-match coin toss and will be attacking the Stretford End in the first-half.
Palace in their white change colours and we’re underway.
Here come the two teams…
We’re nearly ready – Manchester United and Crystal Palace emerge from the Old Trafford tunnel and into a rather drizzly and grey afternoon in England’s north-west.
When Sofyan Amrabat signed for United on loan from Fiorentina, I suspect he didn’t imagine he’d be playing as an emergency left-back.
The midfielder though has been pressed into action there because of injuries to Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Sergio Reguilon, meaning they have no senior options in that position.
We will be focusing on the action at Old Trafford but if you want to keep tabs on the other 3pm Premier League matches, including Wolves vs Man City and Bournemouth vs Arsenal, then please click on the link above.
Just 15 minutes until kick-off
The two teams just concluding their warm-up routines as Old Trafford fills up. Not much longer to wait until the start now.
Erik ten Hag has weighed into the debate over a fixture pile-up in football and says it’s unfair to overload the players.
United have suffered a crippling injury list in recent weeks with no fewer than 16 players out of action since pre-season.
Lisandro Martinez has become the latest addition after aggravating the foot injury which kept him out for two months at the end of last season.
That’s definitely an eye-catching result in the lunchtime game. Brighton, just a couple of weeks after beating United pretty convincingly at Old Trafford, have been smashed for six at Villa Park.
Ollie Watkins netted a hat-trick and what an impressive display by Unai Emery’s side, who climb up to third ahead of the afternoon games.
Crystal Palace big match stats
Crystal Palace have only won three of their past 14 away league fixtures, drawing three and losing eight.
Palace are one of just two teams, along with Luton, yet to score in the first half of a Premier League game this season, attempting 35 shots in the opening 45 minutes of matches without a goal.
Roy Hodgson could become the second visiting manager to win three successive Premier League matches at Old Trafford, emulating Pep Guardiola with Manchester City between 2016 and 2019.
Odsonne Edouard has scored four goals in six Premier League games this season. He scored five times in 35 top-flight appearances last term.
CHRIS WHEELER: After a start to the season in which very little seems to have gone right for Manchester United and Erik ten Hag, finally a night when they could do no wrong.
An excellent full debut for Sofyan Amrabat, a victorious comeback by Mason Mount, first goals of the season for Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial, a fourth for Casemiro, and vibrant displays from youngsters Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri.
No wonder Ten Hag wore the look of a man who has weathered the worst of the early-season storm after securing a second win in the space of four days.

Man United big match stats
Manchester United’s league defeat by Brighton a fortnight ago brought an end to their 31-game unbeaten run at Old Trafford in all competitions.
The Red Devils could lose consecutive home league matches for the first time since defeats by Liverpool and Manchester City in October and November 2021.
Defeat would signal United’s worst start to a league campaign for 34 years.
They are unbeaten in 15 Premier League home fixtures against London opposition, winning the last eight.
Marcus Rashford has scored just four times in his past 17 Premier League appearances, with all of those goals coming against London opposition.
Bruno Fernandes scored in both games against Palace last season.
Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has revealed that his iPhone background is a picture of himself celebrating.
Garnacho showed off his lock screen as he arrived at Old Trafford on Saturday ahead of United’s Premier League game at home to Crystal Palace.
The 19-year-old found the net against Palace in midweek when United won 3-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Hodgson makes six changes
Six changes for Palace from the side that played at Old Trafford in midweek – Joel Ward, Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Joachim Andersen, Will Hughes and Sam Johnstone come in.
Amrabat slots in as a makeshift left-back!
With Lisandro Martinez now set for a spell on the sidelines, it’s clear that Victor Lindelof is Erik ten Hag’s preferred partner for Raphael Varane.
He slots into the heart of defence today with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans on the bench.
It would appear Sofyan Amrabat is going to slot in at left-back with no regular options available in that position.
United’s injury woes are easing a little further up the park – Mason Mount starts in midfield, while Facundo Pellistri is given another chance to show what he can do on the right side of the attack.
Substitutes: Bayindir; Evans, Maguire, Eriksen, Hannibal, McTominay, Van de Beek, Garnacho, Martial
TEAM NEWS coming up shortly
We’ll be able to bring you the confirmed team line-ups from Old Trafford in a few minutes’ time so stay tuned.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson appears set for another spell on the sidelines, with manager Roy Hodgson admitting initial scans on a thigh injury ‘didn’t look like good news’.
Henderson made a first start since joining the Eagles in a £20million move from Manchester United in the Carabao Cup tie against his old club on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old lasted less than 20 minutes before he was forced off and replaced by Sam Johnstone, who had been Palace’s regular number one this season.

Head to head stats
Manchester United are set to face Crystal Palace at home for the second time in five days, after a 3-0 League Cup triumph on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils are vying to win three consecutive home games against Palace in all competitions.
However, Palace are unbeaten in their previous three Premier League visits to Old Trafford under Roy Hodgson (W2, D1), winning the last two.
United have won just four of the past 10 top-flight meetings, drawing three and losing three.
Marcus Rashford has revealed he is doing extra work with Manchester United’s summer signing Rasmus Hojlund as the pair look to quickly build a potent partnership in attack.
Hojlund joined Man United in the summer for £72m from Atalanta, with the 20-year-old Danish forward backed by the club to ease the goalscoring burden on Rashford.
The England star scored 30 goals in all competitions for Man United last season, with Bruno Fernandes the only other player to reach double figures by netting 14.

Fernandes takes time to greet fans outside Old Trafford
Antony has returned to training with Manchester United as the Brazilian winger returns to the fold amid domestic abuse allegations against him.
He was photographed arriving at the club’s Carrington training complex in the back of a blacked out Mercedes van on Saturday morning.
Antony will train while his team-mates take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Can Manchester United keep their mini-revival going?
It doesn’t take too many setbacks for Manchester United to be officially in crisis. Consecutive losses to Arsenal, Brighton and Bayern Munich most definitely had the club in that kind of territory.
But they could well be on the road to recovery. After wins over Burnley and today’s opponents Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in midweek, Erik ten Hag’s side go for three victories in a row this afternoon.
Palace were rolled over by a rotated United team on Tuesday but with Premier League points up for grabs, it could be very different at Old Trafford today.
As always, it’s been an eventful week at United, from Marcus Rashford crashing a very expensive Rolls-Royce to Antony’s return to training amid domestic abuse allegations and more additions to an extensive injury list.
But the next game is always just around the corner and the outlook will become that little bit more bright if they can pick up another three points today.
