Luka Romero believes that Italian football ‘is more difficult’ than in Spain and was honest when explaining why he pushed to leave Milan on loan this month.
The 19-year-old Argentinian forward joined Almeria on a six-month loan deal with no buy option attached this week, giving him the chance to continue his development with more regular playing time after a lack of minutes under Stefano Pioli this term.
Romero signed for Milan on a free transfer last summer after his contract expired with Lazio and failed to break into the squad during his first six months at the club, seeing just 155 minutes of action across five games.
Speaking via TMW, Luka Romero discussed his loan move to Almeria and explained why he decided to push for an exit from Milan this month.
“I go and help out with everything I can when I’m on the pitch and I try to enjoy this experience. I’ve played in teams where there’s pressure, so I’m prepared for whatever happens. I’m happy with my return to Spain.
“When I played, I was still a child in Mallorca. Football in Italy is more difficult and here you play a little more, so I’m grateful for Almeria’s offer. I asked Milan to leave to get more minutes and feel important.
“Boca Juniors was something between the clubs. I talked to Almeria, and it seemed like a good place to continue my career. I can’t wait to play and have fun.”
Romero became the youngest ever La Liga debutant when he made his first league appearance for Mallorca back in 2020 at the age of 15, but hasn’t managed to become a first team regular since moving to Italy back in July 2021.
