IPL 2023 Retention: Lucknow Super Giants set to release Manish Pandey, Andrew Tye, and Ankit Rajpoot ahead of the Auction? Check OUT

Pacers Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye not fitting in LSG’s pace department?

  • Ankit Rajpoot has been associated with the marquee T20 tournament since 2013.
  • The Lucknow franchise decided to invest in Rajpoot and picked him at this year’s mega auction.
  • It was a chance for the Uttar Pradesh pacer to redeem himself but unfortunately, he did not get even a single game.
  • KL Rahul & company drafted Mohsin Khan into the XI ahead of Rajpoot and the left-arm seamer did not disappoint.
  • Mohsin wreaked havoc with the ball and picked up 14 wickets in nine games at a superb economy of 5.97.
  • Mark Wood got ruled out of the entire 2022 season of the IPL due to an elbow injury. Lucknow decided to fill the Wood void with Andrew Tye.
  • Tye has been a giant of a player in the shortest format of the game and has taken 274 wickets in 195 matches at an economy of 8.11.
  • Tye failed to rise to the occasion and took just two wickets in three games conceding runs at an alarming rate of 9.73.
  • He was sidelined after the poor displays and was not picked again.

IPL 2022: “For how long will you stick with Manish Pandey?” - Aakash Chopra urges LSG to look beyond the struggling batter

Manish Pandey a liability for LSG?

LSG picked Manish Pandey at the mega auction 2022 for a sum of INR 4.6 CR to bolster their Indian batting core. The 33-year-old has been around the marquee tournament since its inception and has amassed 3648 runs in 160 matches at a strike rate of 121.52.

The veteran batter is known to provide solidity and the Lucknow franchise would have expected the same from him. However, Manish was nowhere close to his best and struggled to get going. In the six games he played, he could score just 88 runs at a strike rate of 110.00.

The Lucknow side paid a hefty amount for the Indian batter and would have expected more from him. They sidelined Manish following his dismal show and pushed Deepak Hooda up the order. The latter had an incredible season and aggregated 451 runs in 15 games at a strike rate of 136.67. With Hooda, acing the middle-order role LSG might ponder about releasing Manish ahead of the forthcoming auction.
