Dubbed the ‘party hole’ before a ball was struck, the 12th hole at the Grange Golf Club is certainly living up to expectations with DJ Fisher getting involved in the revelry with a shoey at LIV Golf Adelaide.

Event organisers have transformed the par-three hole – also known as the Watering Hole – into a party hole for fans to enjoy the action as stars of the controversial new tournament compete in Australia.

Approximately 63,000 fans are expected to descend on the Grange Golf Club, with the majority eager to catch a glimpse of Open champion Cam Smith in action, and Aussie music sensation DJ Fisher elicited a smile from the world No. 6 on Friday.

As Smith walked the fairway, the musician poured a can of beer in a shoe and appeared to offer it to the 29-year-old. When his request was denied, he drank it himself.

Fisher, who rose to fame in 2018 with Losing It, uploaded footage of the interaction on Instagram, with the caption: ‘HAHAHAHAHA CAN’T WIN THEM ALL.’

Smith enjoyed his countryman’s antics, although he dropped a shot on that hole and he was off the pace during the first round.

Fans have taken to the party hole immediately, with commentators heard saying ‘take a bow, Adelaide’ while Fisher drank his shoey on Friday.

Elsewhere, American Talor Gooch has taken the first round lead at the inaugural LIV Golf tournament in Adelaide.

Gooch has carded eight birdies in 14 holes at the Grange Golf Club to be eight under, two shots ahead of South African Charl Schwartzel and New Zealander Danny Lee.

American Brendan Steele and Englishman Richard Bland are five under, followed by a batch of seven golfers at four under including Australian Matt Jones and Spaniard Sergio Garcia.

Jones’ fellow Australian Cam Smith is two under and compatriot Marc Leishman one under.

Smith captains the all-Australian team, Rippers GC, featuring Jones, Leishman and Jed Morgan.

Morgan (one over) is among eight golfers in the 48-strong field to be over par in benign conditions at the sandbelt course in Adelaide’s west.

American Shiwan Kim is having a torrid time – he posted a 10 on the par-5 7th hole and has one double-bogey and four bogeys to be nine over.

American drawcards Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelsen are three under at a tournament which struck early spectator troubles – many of the 35,000-strong sell-out crowd missed the start because of massive queues to enter.

Thousands of fans were in a line at least a kilometre long outside the one entrance gate when players teed off in a shotgun start.

Johnson’s Aces GC top the team leaderboard entering the tournament, the first LIV event on Australian soil.

Charles Howell III, who won the season-opening tournament, leads overall standings from Brooks Koepka, who won at the last LIV event.

Howell is one under and Koepka two under in their opening rounds.

The individual winner at the Grange will collect $US4 million ($A6m) of the total purse of $US20 million ($A30m).
