Kings rookies Murray, Ellis appreciate guidance from Queta originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Neemias Queta is vying for a spot on the Kings’ 2022-23 roster after a solid NBA Summer League performance.

Last season, Queta appeared in 14 games for Sacramento, averaging 3.4 points, 2.2 total rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. The Portugal native had key moments that he hopes to carry over to this upcoming campaign.

However, improving his game this offseason wasn’t the only goal for the 23-year-old. As one of the veterans on the team, Queta took the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Keegan Murray, under his wing.

“He’s a guy that kind of showed me the ropes a little bit during the mini-camp during summer league,” Murray said on episode three of “The Run.” “And he’s able to catch and shoot 3s, block shots, rebound, put back dunks. So he’s a guy that I had to play with.”

Murray wasn’t the only player that Queta had a good impression on during summer league. Kings undrafted rookie Keon Ellis was another player that had high praise for the big man as a mentor while in Las Vegas.

“He has a year under his belt, so he’s giving us pointers on the court, on the defense and offensive side, telling us, ‘Hey, if he’s playing you too high, like, slip back door and I’ll get you on the low,’ just things like that,” Ellis said.

“Like, he’s played a year, so he’s just telling us what to take advantage of and things like that. So I definitely like playing with him.”

Despite wanting to improve his game and make an impression on the new coaching staff led by coach Mike Brown, Queta left his mark as a leader during his time in Las Vegas.
