Kevin Na pulled out of The Masters midway through his first round at Augusta National on Thursday, with the LIV Golf star citing illness for his decision.

The Korean-American was the first golfer from the breakaway Saudi-backed league to tee it up at The Masters on Thursday, but he could only manage nine holes before he pulled out with his score at four-over-par.

Na double-bogeyed the first hole, before adding further bogeys at three, five, six and nine, before he packed his bags and headed for the exit.

The decision left his playing partner Mike Weir all alone for the final nine holes of his opening round, and he began the back half of the course at one-under-par.

Earlier in the week, LIV Golf chief Greg Norman had insisted that there would be a ‘party on the 18th green’ if one of his players managed to win the tournament.

Na’s withdrawal was a far-from-ideal start for the breakaway league, who have the likes of Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Phil Mickelson wearing their logo around the hallowed fairways of Augusta National.

Norman, himself, meanwhile, will not be in attendance having been snubbed by tournament organizers.

There will also be plenty of anti-LIV Golf players fighting at the top of the leaderboard, with the outspoken pair of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy both teeing it up on Thursday.

Woods went out early and had huge crowds following him around, as patrons took in his greatness for what could potentially be the final time.
