Durant trolls Patriots fan with Brady chirp during preseason game originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Kevin Durant has takes about everything — even the state of the New England Patriots.

The Brooklyn Nets forward, who will remain a Brooklyn Nets forward this season after a failed trade request, couldn’t resist ribbing a Patriots fan Friday night on Twitter during New England’s preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The fan, a basketball trainer based in North Carolina who goes by “CuffsTheLegend,” was watching the Patriots struggle in Las Vegas when he suggested the team lacks an identity.

Perry: Jones clearly frustrated by dud offensive performance in Vegas

That’s when Durant came over the top with a jab familiar to Patriots fans.

Durant is referring to legendary quarterback Tom Brady, who won six Super Bowls over two decades in New England before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. Brady promptly won another Super Bowl in Tampa Bay while the Patriots scuffled to a 7-9 record in 2020, and there were plenty of fans who jumped on the Brady bandwagon amid New England’s worst season of the Bill Belichick era.

You could argue those were fair-weather Patriots fans, which seems to be Durant’s insult here.

As for why Durant was going back-and-forth with Patriots fans at 10 p.m. on a summer Friday night? Well, if you follow KD on Twitter, you know he’ll respond to anyone.

Durant could have come to Boston this year had the Nets accepted the Celtics’ reported trade request for the superstar forward. Instead, the Washington, D.C., native and Commanders fan will be free to take shots at Boston fans until the NBA season starts up this fall.
