John Daly THROWS UP if he eats vegetables, drinks five GALLONS of whole milk a week and is called ‘camel’ as he never drinks water

When it’s Major week in the golfing calendar, everyone wants to see John Daly. He’s hard to miss.

This week, he arrived at The Open – held at Royal Liverpool in northern England – in an emblazoned star and stripes top with Donald Trump’s name weaved onto the sleeve. His bright, erratic clothing is one reason why he is loved across golf but far from the only thing that makes him so famous.

Daly’s a proud American but the British tournament holds a special place in his heart after he won it in 1995. And either side of the pond, fans are fascinated by Daly because they want to see what he’s wearing, how much he smokes and what he is snacking on during his round.

CBS sports reporter Will Brinson once tweeted his hawkeye findings of Daly’s diet, taking ‘meticulous notes every time he reached for his golf bag, took a bite or a sip or a puff’ during the 2008 Wyndham Championship.

‘The final tally of literally everything he put into his body over a full 18 holes: 21 cigs, 12 Diet Cokes, 6 packs of Peanut M&M’s, 0.0 ounces of water,’ Brinson tweeted.

Daly is very open about his diet and probably would not reject Brinson’s findings.

‘Rich Beam calls me ‘camel’ cos I never drink water. I drink diet coke, I like to have ice which to me is water so I get plenty of water in my diet coke,’ Daly said in an interview with Graham Bensinger in 2016 – wearing a stars and stripes blazer.

‘I don’t drink water. I hate water. I cannot stand to drink water. I used to drink 12-20 diet cokes a day, I’d go to McDonald’s three or four times a day. To me they always had the best fountain drink.’

The American then revealed to Bensinger that he had recently started chugging whole milk.

‘I drink about five gallons a week of whole milk. I like mixing Hershey’s in my vitamin D milk,’ he said, before being quizzed on his love for McDonald’s and Burger King.

‘Burger King, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, I love them. I used to be able to eat two Big Macs, two or three cheeseburgers, chocolate shake and regular coke back then, sitting pretty easily.

‘My 17th birthday, I was a kicker for the football team. I got 17 tacos and I was still hungry and got a couple burritos after that.

‘I don’t eat a lot of fast food any more. Burger King has the best burgers, McDonald’s has the best fries. I’ll go to Burger King, get the BK and I’ll just take the meat out and eat it. I have a tough time with bread. Sometimes I can eat bread, sometimes I can’t.’

Bensinger then said he had heard Daly is physically sick when he eats vegetables.

‘Pretty much, yeah’ Daly said. ‘I don’t eat beans spinach, broccoli, any of that stuff. When I was young my dad would force it down me and I would throw it up.’

Daly also counts Hooters as a sponsor and in 2022 went there for a night out after the opening round of the PGA Championship in Oklahoma. He apparently enjoyed some wings before ending his night on the slot machines at a casino.

In September 2020, Daly was diagnosed with bladder cancer that he later said was benign but would need regular trips to his doctor for the next five years.

‘The bladder cancer’s benign right now,’ he told Golf Channel in March 2022. ‘I go back in May and I’ve got to do once every six months now instead of three, but I’ve still got to do it for five years.’

‘Some days I feel like Superman, some days I feel like Jimmy Hoffa 6 feet under.’

Daly was also diagnosed with osteoarthritis in his right knee in 2019, making walking long stretches of the golf course a chore for the 57-year-old – which is why the PGA allows him to use a cart to traverse the fields.

Earlier this year, in May, Daly was forced to retire from the PGA Senior Championship because he was struggling with the ‘down grade’ tee boxes that he says caused his legs to swell up.

‘So hard to play tee boxes that are down grade,’ Daly tweeted. ‘Golf course is great but I wish they would make their tee boxes level!

‘We are not young anymore!! Some guys are ADA and we can not follow through on down hill tee boxes!!

‘I’m sorry @PGA you are going the wrong way in golf but I love y’all.’

It’s Daly’s honesty that makes him such a cult hero on the PGA Tour and he always makes times for the fans that turn it out in their thousands to see him play.

Next week, when he returns to the US, he has a line of cannabis gummies hitting the shelves. By Daly’s own admission, it is probably about as green as he gets.
