Houston Rockets rookie Jalen Green has proven to be a dynamic scorer at times this season but the second pick knows there is still improvement to be made on the offensive end of the floor.

Green on Tuesday produced 20 points, four assists and two steals in a 113-100 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. He has scored at least 20 points in three out of his last four games with 14 such games overall on the season, tied for the second-most by a rookie.

He often does the majority of his work from either behind the 3-point line or by getting into the paint and finishing at the rim. To combat that, teams try to get Green into taking mid-range shots, an area that is still a work in progress for him this season.

Green wants to improve that area of his game.

I need to start getting more comfortable (with my mid-range) but I’m working on it right now, still trying to get it down. The Clippers played me the whole time trying to get me to that in-between game so I got to know when to take those shots. I don’t really take a lot of mid-ranges. I’m either a three or get to the cup. Once I get the in-between game, I think it will take my whole game to another level.

Rockets head coach Stephen Silas said Green is still learning when to take those mid-range shots. The team has talked to him about taking them when the opportunity is right and passing the ball off in other situations to find an open teammate.

Green, just 46 games into his career, certainly has plenty of room to grow as a player. However, developing a consistent shot will make him even more dangerous on offense, something that could be a scary thing for the competition.
