Ja Morant has entered a counseling program in Florida after he brandished a gun on Instagram Live, according to ESPN.

The night after the Memphis Grizzlies star scored 27 points in a loss to the Denver Nuggets on March 3, he was in a local club in Denver when he started the live stream and allegedly took out the weapon. After the video went viral, the team said that the 2019-2020 Rookie of the Year was going to sit out at least two games. He also released a statement expressing his regret at his actions.

“Iā€™m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being,” he said.

After an investigation, Colorado police said that they will not file charges for the incident.

In January, there were reports that Morant’s associates “aggressively confronted” members of the Indiana Pacers’ travel party after a game in Memphis. The 23-year-old said that the reports were “pretty much false.”

There is no timetable for Morant’s return to the team. The Grizzlies said that he will be out at least through Wednesday’s game against the Miami Heat.

Morant earned his second All-Star appearance this season, averaging 27.1 points, 8.2 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Memphis is currently third in the Eastern Conference and has won back-to-back games without their star player after losing the first two that he sat out.
