India beat Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test of the two-match series at the Zahur Ahmed Chaudhary Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday, December 18. Bangladesh were bowled out for 324 runs in reply to a massive 513-run target set by India. Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja believes that Shubman Gill’s century in the first Test could become a selection headache for Team India.
Shubman Gill, who replaced Rohit Sharma in the playing XI, made the most of his chance by scoring his first Test century. There is no confirmation from the BCCI on whether Rohit will be fit and ready for the second test, which is scheduled to begin on December 22 in Mirpur. India would have a massive selection headache with Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara’s centuries in the first Test.

It Will Probably Be Difficult – Ajay Jadeja
During a discussion on Sony Sports, Ajay Jadeja said that it is difficult to pick openers. The former Indian cricketer highlighted that the No. 3 spot is also no longer available for Gill with Pujara scoring 192 runs in this match.
“It is easy for us to sit here and decide. I can do that because it is not my responsibility, I don’t have to take this team along. It will probably be difficult for whoever is there.”
“You are stuck if you look at the future because Rohit Sharma is the captain. If you look at the present, then KL Rahul is the captain, so you can’t leave him out. If this talk was four matches ago, when Pujara had not come back, you could have played Shubman Gill at No. 3, but now Pujara has scored 200 runs.”
Shubman Gill Can Grow From Here – Ajay Jadeja
Jadeja believes the youngster has the potential to progress. The cricketer-turned-commentator suggested that team management should nurture this Indian team for the future and said their mindset will be clear based on the decision they take.
“After that, it is his (Virat Kohli’s) number. The number after that, when Vihari got injured, Shreyas Iyer is there. If you see practically, you are in a dilemma, but the reality is that the form Shubman Gill is in currently, he can grow from here.”
“Very few players who can grow are left in that team, who are playing currently. The Indian team’s thinking will be seen, whether you are looking to grow this Indian team for the future or you want to stick with whoever is there.”
