India beat Bangladesh by 227 runs in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday, December 10. Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria believes Virat Kohli deserves credit for Ishan Kishan’s double century.

Both Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli scored hundreds as India posted a massive total of 409/8 in 50 overs against Bangladesh. Ishan Kishan, who came in for an injured Rohit Sharma, scored a stunning double century of 210 runs off 131 balls, while Virat Kohli slammed 113 runs off 91 deliveries.

He Was Guiding Him – Danish Kaneria

Kaneria stated on his YouTube channel that the former India captain guided Kishan throughout his innings, allowing the youngster to stay calm and play his natural aggressive brand of cricket.

“Virat Kohli should be given credit for Ishan Kishan’s double century. He was guiding him,” Danish Kaneria said.

He Was Calming Me Down – Ishan Kishan

Speaking to Sony Sports, Kishan also praised Kohli for his valuable advice during the record partnership. Ishan Kishan said, “Batting with Virat bhai, he has a such good sense of the game. He was calming me down when I was in my 90s. I wanted to bring it up with a six, but he said to get it in singles, as it’s your first.”

In the fifth over of the match, Virat Kohli came to the crease with only 15 runs on the board after Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for 3 runs by Mehdi Hasan. Kohli and Kishan put on a match-winning 290-run stand to put India in the driving seat against Bangladesh.

Don’t Shuffle The Lineup, It Can Affect Confidence Levels – Danish Kaneria

Kaneria believes that it is better to keep players who have played for a long time in specific positions rather than shuffle the lineup. Kaneria also praised Virat Kohli after his 44th ODI century, which he scored at his regular No. 3 position.

“Virat Kohli came out to bat at his specific number. He scored runs at that spot. Don’t shuffle the lineup. It can affect confidence levels. It’s better to stick with certain positions for players who have played at specific spots for a long time.”

Former India captain Virat Kohli got the monkey off his back in ODIs by smashing his first century in the 50-over format in 25 innings after 1214 days. His last ODI century came in 2019, when India toured the West Indies after the ODI World Cup.
