Has Cariuma officially taken over skateboarding?

Never have i seen a company integrate and dominate a subculture as fast as swiftly as Cariuma has.

A lot of skate shoes use the same manufacturing, they go through the same process, do the same thing and they kinda make the same shoe, just a different design, but in the Cariuma’s case it’s really easy to talk about the highlights because they are extremely unique.

Like Cariuma said, “For every pair of shoes you buy they plant a pair of trees in the Brazilian rainforest” The shoes have a longer life span because of the triple stitching. Most skate shoes have a single or double, you’re looking at a triple here. That’s what? Yup. We’re looking at a solid triple here over here.

The insole is made of mamona oil and bio based cork. I have no idea of what either of those two things are but man it sounds fancy as hell. Its kinda the perfect shoe for animal/tree huger like myself. It’s cool be a part of this new generation of not only brands who want to do
better for the planet, but just skateboarders in general who are interested in tryin to make the world a slightly better place.

COMFORT

Despite being a fairly thin shoe they have a sort of lightweight pillowy feeling. They are a very very comfortable shoe. Other popular shoes might not feel so comfortable on your feet, some of the bigger brands don’t think about the cushion inside the shoe as much. Thats why i always worn Vans shoes in the past because they fit wide inside, so my feet don’t get crushed. Unfortunately with every other brand in skating my feet hurt, at least the first day, until the shoes eventually stretch out. These and Vans shoes are instantenious because they this one is built to be comfortable on your foot first and foremost. One thing to note is that Cariuma Catiba Pro’s are a volcanized skate shoe but it does have a more cup sole feel while you’re skating them.

They are perfect if you’re looking for a nice loose shoe.

“This shoe laces are actually in the good spot, because i’m barely starting to scratch these laces” says Christian, “and not ripping any shoelaces is always a good thing for me”.

The not so good: “The more that i skated these shoes and the sweatier that my foot got the more that i started to notice that this insule started to compress.” Cristian continues “Especially in the heel. The insule is pretty comfortable but i would like to see it keep it’s form longer. I didn’t really jump down anything that

big while skating this shoes, but anything that i did jump down didn’t really feel that painful on my feet.”

For me, one of the most important factors when it comes to skate shoes is just the hype and energy that they give me. So when i put this shoes on i just felt really stoked on how they look, and they got this thick juicy sole that i think looks pretty cool. The sole is actually made entirely of natural rubber materials, there is no plastic in this sole, which means no slipping of the grip tape. When i saw the girth of this sole i expected not to be able to feel my board much at all but when i slid this on and stepped on my board i was feeling my board very nicely.

Cariuma VS Adidas VS Vans

Cariuma Catiba Pro’s strike a nice balance between Vans and Adidas. Adidas is more protective where you have to sacrifice board feel, where as Vans are a more board feely shoe where you have to sarifice protection.

So far i feel that the Cariuma Catiba Pro’s are a happy medium.

cariuma great protection

When i lock into that axle stove i can feel my truck hitting the coping. I’m pretty confident that they would perform well when it comes to stairs and drops especially because the bottom is so solidly constructed.

A lot of times when i get my new skate shoes i pretty much lose my ollie or i lose my kick flip. I pretty much had all my tricks immediately with this shoes.

You know when you flick your kick flip and it feels precise. Kick flips, trick flips, my freaking switch tray was on the point with these things.

You know when your hype and confidence is high during skate session, that’s a good sign. I feel like usually when a company comes out of nowhere with their first skate shoe you would expect it’s gonna be ass, but no they freaking killed it.

And honestly i’m not suprised.

The fact that they are already building a skate team really shows they are doing this the right way.

They are actually paying atention to what skateboarders want and need. I really think these shoes are a great value for the price. Feeling good, skating good, that’s all that really matters, and bonus that they are made from high quality enviormentaly friendly materials.

THE LOGO

Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room. It’s the logo on the side of the shoe. I think this shoes look cool and have a clear minimalistc design that you can wear even if you’re not scating. Here’s why: when you design something there are purposes and reasons for graphics logos and lines to be in certain positions. So when i saw that they took the clasic skateboarder shoe silouette.

I not only thought it looked cool, but i also thought it was a very good design. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

For me, the part that hooks me the most is the fact that cariuma shoes have 0 carbon footprint – they make up for their carbon footprint emition in production by planting trees in the Brazilian rain forest, creating a balanced carbon footprint of net. So, like i said for every pair of shoes you buy they plant a pair of trees. That’s not 1 but 2 trees. Sometimes even 10!

They make vendors and supply chain sign a strick code of conduct guaranteeing fair wages which is a massive issue in fast fashion

Cariuma is so socialy responsible that it’s comical.

While we’re at it, the deal about the tree planting doesn’t work only for Cariuma Catiba Pro’s. It stands for ALL of Cariuma’s shoes. Which means Cariuma Oca Low’s have have the same natural rubber outsole, and the insole made from that thing. Momona oil. And the aglets. Omg. we have metal aglets. How about that. And, not you can get a 100% vegan version.

So Cariuma Oca Low’s are more of an everyday version of Catiba Pro’s. The shoe has quite a bit of drop to it, it’s not easily compressible, and it’s not designed for rigorous exercise. It’s more just a nice, casual shoe that’s at home in casual settings—it reminds us of a low top Converse, or a Vans shoe.

They also have a narrow silhouette so you don’t have to worry about your feet looking too bulky. Oca Low’s work well for getting around campus, commuting to the coworking space, or even a leisurely walk through the park.

Now, as Packhacker noted, all this comfort and style comes at a price, and that price is around 80 bucks a pair. So these are a little pricier than a pair of Converse or Vans (by about 30 bucks), but if you’re someone who likes having the extra support without sacrificing style—and appreciate sustainable materials and ethical production—you may find that they’re worth it. Or not. Either way, it’s something to note.

As temperatures began to dip into icy territory, you might want to stock up on boots that are cold-weather-proof. By that I mean, shoes that stay dry in wet climates, and keep your feet nice and toasty on outdoor adventures.

The problem is, not all cold-weather looks are always easy to style or provide enough support for your feet. Thankfully, this isn’t the case with Cariuma’s new OCA Therma boot. Like all the othe Cariuma’s snickers, these too fit comfortably from the beginning.

Now if you happen to be a special cookie and want something that nobody else still has. You might want to check out the latest launch from Cariuma. The Salvas sneaker. Like the rest of their styles, this sneaker doesn’t need to be broken in, and is supremely comfortable all day long.

Crafted from premium leather, recycled mesh lining, and a breathable cork insole, these have quickly become our W+G editors’ go-to, everyday sneaker. The sole is 100 percent slip-resistant, so if you find yourself on frictionless surfaces, you’ll have grip. Similar to Stan Smiths, these kicks are a classic (but more comfortable, in my opinion).

Like Cariuma said it themselves Salvas defines the beauty in simplicity. They’re the blue jeans, the white tee—a staple for the sneaker age. It finds footing in playful details like subtle perforation and contrast colors, though comfort remains the common thread. They’re made to last, for any occasion, and everyone.

Finally, my favorite pair. If you don’t want to bother with tying and retying laces, and instead want some easy kicks to just slide on and off, these slip-ons are the answer. The Cariuma’s Slip-on Skate Pro.

These slip-ons have that laid-back skater style, and pair well with any casual outfit, whether you’re hitting the skate park or brunch with friends. The shoes have a suede and canvas upper with a rip-resistant toe area, and a grippy, natural rubber sole to keep you grounded. Its also a lighter shoe which makes it a little more flexible, and for me it was very comfortable.

Will i continue to rock Catiba Pro’s? YES! It is very important that i reduce my carbon footprint and thats what these shoes do.“ says John.

Thanks to John, Christian and George for giving their honest opinions about the Cariuma Catiba Pro’s!
