Gary Neville believes Paul Pogba’s Manchester United departure ‘leaves a bad taste in the mouth’ as the under-performing midfielder prepares to re-sign for Juventus.

It came as it emerged the Frenchman dismissed United’s contract offer of more than £300,000-a-week as ‘nothing’ in an exchange with his late agent Mino Raiola captured in a new documentary.

United are set to lose their record £89million signing to Juventus for the second time with 29-year-old Pogba poised to agree a four-year contract.

Old Trafford legend Neville said Pogba’s six-year second stint at United, which saw him win just two pieces of silverware, left both parties wanting more.

He said in a TikTok chat: ‘I’m not bothered about Pogba’s comments to be honest with you. I think that once a player has left, he can say whatever he wants. Fine, no problem.

‘But I don’t think he has performed well over the last six years. I don’t think the club have performed well with him either, or handled him well.

‘It’s been a partnership that, to be fair, has failed on both sides so that is what you’d have to say on that one.

‘There is no winner when a player leaves after six years with the money that has been spent and very little has been won.

‘The player leaves dissatisfied and the club are dissatisfied with it as well. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth because it’s the second time it’s happened.

‘You wish him all the best in the future at Juventus.’

Pogba played 226 times during his second spell at United, scoring 39 times, but never achieved the same heights as during the successful four seasons at Juventus that preceded it.

He helped Jose Mourinho’s United win the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa League during his first season back but has been complicit in a decline in standards at United which has seen them go five years without a trophy.

Pogba will depart in acrimonious circumstances after a clip from a new Amazon documentary on the player revealed he rejected two offers from United in excess of his existing £290,000-a-week deal.

The 29-year-old also confirms he was unhappy that United waited so long to propose a new deal after he first approached the club in the summer of 2019.

Filmed on The Pogmentary speaking to his agent Mino Raiola as he drives a Rolls-Royce in Miami, Pogba asks: ‘Did Manchester make a second offer?’

‘Yes,’ replies Raiola, who died in April. ‘They absolutely want you to stay. For me, the offer doesn’t reflect that. I told them, ‘If you want him to stay, don’t make that offer’.

‘I will make them understand that if they really want you to stay and they want to build a project around you, this time they have to act differently and put the money on the table.’

Pogba responds: ‘They’re bluffing. How can you tell a player you absolutely want him and offer him nothing? Never seen that.

‘My thought process is to show Manchester United that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract.’

Neville also worries that United are already falling behind in the summer transfer window as new manager Erik ten Hag starts his rebuild of an under-performing club.

United haven’t yet signed any of their transfer targets but champions City have already signed Erling Haaland for £51m and arch-rivals Liverpool have spent £85m on Portugal’s top-flight top scorer Darwin Nunez.

He posted on Twitter: ‘I know early in the window but it’s worrying that United are struggling to get business done.

‘The others seem set and ready yet United can’t get moving. ETH (Erik ten Hag) needs his group together asap to mould them.

‘Bringing them in late will only make it harder for him! Fingers crossed it happens soon!’

And in his Tiktok chat, Neville added: ‘I tweeted out this morning about United, a little bit worried they’ve not got moving in the transfer window yet when it looks like all the others have done decent business. Haaland, Nunez, Tottenham are doing business.

‘United are a little bit slow, which is not great. We could have done with getting some players in earlier really to get the manager his squad as early as possible in pre-season. That’s really important.

‘It’s really important that you get your players together as early as possible, especially with a new manager. It doesn’t seem to be happening.’
