Gary Lineker has led the praise for Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz after they played out a 26-minute long game to decide the winner of set three in the Wimbledon men’s singles final.

The pair are going at it on Centre Court, with Alcaraz struggling in the first set before winning the next two to put the pressure on Djokovic, with the Serbian great winning the fourth to take it to a fifth-set decider.

Taking to Twitter, Lineker applauded the pair for the fine tennis on display during the final at Wimbledon.

He wrote: ‘Extraordinary game: longer than some sets. 2 warriors!’

Tennis star Nick Kyrgios added to the praise, as he focused on Alcaraz’s impressive performance by stating: ‘Alcaraz is a freak’ after the impressive game which saw him take set two.

Fans joined in with the applause on social media, with tennis account Relevant Tennis tweeting: ‘The whole first set won by Novak 6-1 lasted 35 minutes. 

‘The fifth game of the third set lasted 26 minutes. CRAZY.’

This was added to by user Ian Cameron, who stated that they had never seen anything like that in tennis before.

‘Never seen a longer single game in a tennis match than that,’ he wrote.

Matt Debono joined in with the praise of Alcaraz during the fifth game of the set as he wrote: ‘What a set. That fifth game, wow. Alcaraz is the man!’

Djokovic and Alcaraz are putting on one of the finest finals in Wimbledon history with stars such as Daniel Craig, Stormzy and Brad Pitt in attendance on Centre Court.

It remains to be seen as to who will come out on top in the thrilling final.
