The highly-anticipated French Open is back but will take place without defending champion Rafael Nadal.

Nadal will miss this year’s tournament and Wimbledon due to a hip injury. The Spaniard defeated Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in last year’s final. Andy Murray has also pulled out of the French Open to focus on a grass-court season in which he still believes he can make an impact.

When is the French Open?

This year’s French Open qualifiers got underway yesterday and is set to take place until Friday, May 26.

The singles main draw for the 2023 tournament will take place on Thursday, May 25. 

The 127th edition of the French Open will officially begin on Sunday, May 28, with the men’s final taking place on Sunday, June 11, while the women’s final will take place a day earlier.

As ever, the tournament will take place at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris. 

How to watch

The French Open will be shown live across Eurosport platforms for those wanting to watch in the UK.

Eurosport 1 and 2 will be providing day-to-day coverage of the tournament.

This year, there will be a whopping £38.1 million (€43.9m) up for grabs across the men’s and women’s singles tournaments as well as the doubles events.

The winner of the men’s and women’s final will each pocket £2m each, while the runner-up will take home £1m.
