Charlotte FC are reportedly in talks with Frank Lampard over their vacant coaching role.

Reports on Tuesday night said that Lampard, the former Chelsea and Everton manager who played in Major League Soccer with New York City FC, is in the running for the job alongside former Aston Villa coach Dean Smith.

The Athletic says Lampard and Dean Smith, the former Aston Villa and Norwich coach, are finalists for the role and Charlotte hopes to have someone appointed by late December.

Charlotte made the MLS playoffs for the first time in history this season before losing to New York Red Bulls and parting ways with coach Christian Lattanzio.

Lampard has been out of work as a coach since his second spell at Chelsea, where he returned on an interim basis after the Premier League club fired Graham Potter.
