Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has earned a ton of respect around the league as he is one of the top players in the game regardless of position and he has been able to show off his skills on a nightly basis.
The big man led the league in scoring at 30.6 points per game in the 2021-22 season as he threw the Sixers on his back every night. He became the first big man to lead the league in scoring since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 and he is the first big man to average 30 in a season since Moses Malone in 1982. He is so skilled and that makes him one of the top players in the game.
Former Brooklyn Nets guard Mike James, now playing in the EuroLeague, hopped on “The Players Choice” podcast and he has Embiid as a top 5 player in the league. His other four are Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. He left Stephen Curry off the list.
Mike James on his reasoning for leaving Curry off his list:
I think those other five can do whatever they want to do on any team in the world right now. If we put Luka, Embiid, Bron, KD, and Giannis on any team in the world, they’re gonna be who they are right there…he’s still gonna be Steph, but I think he maximizes him at that at that team, which is nothing wrong with that. I mean, you can maximize yourself as a team and that can be your role and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.
Embiid and the Sixers will look to maximize the talent they have on the roster and look to make a deep run into the playoffs to chase a Larry O’Brien trophy. With the big fella and James Harden healthy, that is the hope for Philadelphia heading into the 2022-23 season.
