To Boston Celtics champion forward and current Celtics broadcaster Cedric Maxwell, Hall of Fame Boston big man Bill Russell was more than just an alumnus of the team they both won titles with. He was a hero, and a friend that Maxwell truly admired in a way the former Finals MVP had to talk about after news of Russell’s passing broke this past weekend.
Maxwell spoke on the USF product’s impact on the court and his iconic advocacy for civil rights and social justice over the decades, as well as why to him, Russell is the very definition we ought to think of when one uses the word “legend” to describe an NBA player.
