Day 2 highlights: Saurashtra, after bundling out for 98 in the first innings, were always playing catch up. In the second innings, one expected a better show from their batters. Harvik Desai and Snell Patel looked good early on, and were in no mood to give their wickets away.
But as soon as Saurabh Kumar was brought into the action, Rest of India took control as the bowler removed both the openers. Chirag Jani and DA Jadeja are at the middle, and Saurashtra have a big Day 3 on their hands.
Earlier, Rest of India started Day 2 with a lead of 107. With Sarfaraz Khan going great guns, ROI were looking for a big lead. While the batter was looking for a big individual score. However, skipper Hanuma Vihari lost his wicket in the morning session. And Khan also followed back to the pavilion in the next couple of overs as well for 138. Even KS Bharat did not add much to the team score.
Saurashtra were suddenly looking good, but JJ Yadav and Saurabh Kumar starred in the lower order for ROI. Step by step, they increased the lead further and further. Saurabh was in solid form as he dealt in boundaries, scoring a 78-ball 55. It included 10 fours while Yadav managed 37 runs.
At the end, they were all out for 74 runs. As for Saurashtra, the match has not gone according to plan. But Chetan Sakariya came up with an individual brilliance, scalping five wickets.

Irani CUP DAY 1 Highlights: As far as the batting of Saurashtra was concerned, they never looked settled against ROI pacers. They lost wickets at regular intervals. Kumar did early damage with the pacer scalping three of the four wickets. Saurashtra were 5-4, it included the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara.
Barring Dharmendrasinh Jadeja’s 28 and Arpit Vasavada’s 22, no one even came close to scoring decent score. Of the 11 players, seven of them were out for single digits. Of the top five batters, none scored in double digits. No wonder, they were all out for 98 runs.

Saurashtra bowlers threatened ROI early on as well. The latter were 18/3, but then Sarfaraz and Vihari dug their team out of trouble. In fact, it was Sarfaraz, who looked in top notch. He began to score runs freely all around the wicket dealing in boundaries. AT the end, he ended with an unbeaten 125 runs from 126 balls, which included 19 fours and two sixes.
On the other hand, Vihari was cautious in his approach. He scored 145-ball 62, which included nine fours and one six. Their unbeaten partnership of 187 runs has put them ROI in control.
With such kind of show on opening day, ROI are already in the driver’s seat. Come Day 2, it provides them a wonderful opportunity to stretch their lead to beyond the 300-run mark too. Meanwhile Saurashtra bowlers will hope to dismiss their opponents as quickly as possible.
