Bruno Fernandes says Cristiano Ronaldo’s early Old Trafford exit is for Man United to deal with ‘on the inside’ as he insists the club – and his Portugal team-mate – are more focused on winning matches

  • Bruno Fernandes believes that Man United will deal with Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Ronaldo was dropped for the game against Chelsea by manager Erik ten Hag
  • The decision was made after he refused to come on to the pitch against Spurs
  • Fernandes also believes his side were deserving of their point against Chelsea

Bruno Fernandes has insisted the most important thing for Manchester United is that the team wins despite the ongoing drama around Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was dropped from the Red Devils’ matchday squad by manager Erik ten Hag for the game against Chelsea after it was revealed that he refused to come on as a substitute in the team’s win over Tottenham Hotspur in mid-week.

His compatriot, Fernandes, has insisted that the matter will be dealt with internally and that the players, including the former Real Madrid and Juventus star, are just focused on winning games.

He told Sky Sports: ‘Now we don’t talk about that we keep it inside.

‘We have to deal with that inside. And no one else has to know what we think what we want or what will go on going to happen because also us – we don’t know.

‘So the most important thing for everyone, including Cristiano, is that the team wins and I’m pretty sure of that.’

The match against Chelsea ended in dramatic fashion as the game looked set to end in a goalless draw, but a late penalty from Jorginho was then cancelled out by a 92nd-minute goal from Casemiro to give United a share of the spoils.

Despite being on the cusp of defeat, Fernandes believes that United’s desire to get back in the game made them deserving of at least a point.

He added: ‘Yeah, I think first off was really good for us, obviously. After the change of the tactical change with Cucurella going out and Kovacic coming in, we had some problems in the middle, but we found our positions, we got our chances, and in the first half we could be two-nil up.

‘Obviously, in the second half they get to go from the penalty, but the belief was there.

‘We keep fighting, the spirit was amazing and that’s why we get the point is not what we want, but it’s a good point.

‘Keep fighting. We keep working. As I said we consider if you’re not turning up or when you love enough time is because you don’t deserve or because you don’t get enough to be to be winning the game.’
