FAN VIEW: It’s time for a new manager at Leeds… and a fitness coach too! The season already looks bleak, and the team is a shadow of the side coached by club legend Marcelo Bielsa

  • Leeds have dropped into the Premier League relegation zone after another loss
  • Jesse Marsch’s side have picked up just two points in their last eight games
  • Whites fan Graham Hyde argues the club need a new manager and fitness coach
  • He claims the ‘chaotic’ team ‘can’t run for longer than 10 minutes at a time’

For so many years, we Leeds fans have lived through a constant changing of managers, changes of styles but, ultimately, things stayed the same.

Simon Grayson rescued us from League One in 2010 and then Marcelo Bielsa changed everything and took us back to the Premier League in 2020.

He gave us an identity, hard running, belief, but a failure to refresh the squad and a heavy injury list led to his departure, leaving Jesse Marsch to arrive and scrape us over the line, avoiding relegation on the last day of last season.

Leeds fans seem to have turned on manager Jesse Marsch following recent performances

All the supporters wanted and hoped for a better season this time around. Many entered it in a positive frame of mind.

A quick start, including a domination of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, gave serious hope. Sadly, a few games down the line and we are back staring at a season that looks even bleaker.

Devoid of width, creativity and energy, the team look a shadow of the side who swept their London rivals aside in August, let alone that of Bielsa’s pomp.

Importantly, many supporters do not believe Marsch has what it takes to turn this around as his team have failed to demonstrate consistency or significant resilience to any form of opposition challenge.

The football seems chaotic, not only to the fan but perhaps to the players too.

Although it would be easy to look at recruitment failures in the summer that left the side lacking a senior striker, a team who rely on pressing have to be able to run for longer than 10 minutes at a time.

It seems not that we only need change. We need a new coach but one who has got a good physical conditioning and fitness team in his backroom staff as well.
