Two-time US Open winner Naomi Osaka will finish a season without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2017 after losing to Danielle Collins. 

The former world No 1 (below) has spoken out previously about her mental health struggles. 

‘I feel restrained,’ said Osaka. ‘I can’t hit the shots I know I can. Maybe I need to watch (Carlos) Alcaraz.’

Maria Sakkari’s nightmare year continued as she lost to Wang Xiyu. The world No 3 from Greece has been beaten by players outside the top 50 at the last three Slams. 

She is the third top-10 seed to fall after Simona Halep and Daria Kasatkina.
