England could be drawn against one of the continent’s heavyweights in today’s draw for Euro 2024.
Their disappointing Nations League campaign means Gareth Southgate’s team will be picked from pot two in Frankfurt.
England’s potential opponents could include Nations League finalists Italy, Spain, Croatia or Holland. Or they could be pitched against one of the sides in pot one that comprises Portugal, Denmark, Hungary, Belgium, Poland and Switzerland.

England will avoid France, Austria, Czech Republic, Israel, Finland, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Scotland and Wales, the other teams in pot two.
But they could face the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.
The teams are divided into seven pots based on positions in the Nations League group stage. The finalists form the UNL pot, with the next six best-ranked in pot one.
For the purposes of the draw, in effect they together form the first ‘pot’, with a distinction created for Nation League finalists because they must have June international dates kept free for the finals.

There will be seven groups of five teams and three groups of six. The Nations League finalists will be in the five-team groups.
England were relegated from Group A3 of the Nations League with no wins from six games.
Qualifying groups are set to be capped at five teams for Euro 2024. It will still be a 24-team tournament after plans to expand to 32 were abandoned.
