Emma Raducanu has been handed a big boost ahead of her first-round Wimbledon match on Monday after training without any problems at the Aorangi Park Practice Courts.

The 19-year-old was somewhat of a doubt for the tournament after being forced to retire in the Nottingham Open through injury at the start of the month.

But it looks like the British No.1 will be fit and able to take on Alison Van Uytvanck in her Wimbledon opener next week.

The reigning US Open champion took to the courts to train on Saturday ahead of her Wimbledon opener, and onlookers were quick to spot that there was no sign of strapping for the Brit.

A user online wrote: ‘Raducanu’s just been hitting some serves and seems to be throwing herself into shots ok. No sign of any strapping.’

The 19-year-old was forced to retire from the Nottingham Open earlier this month after said she felt pain in her left side from the moment she served in her first round match against Viktorija Golubic.

She took painkillers and was laid out flat on court for treatment during two change of ends, later declaring that she would seek a scan – which left her involvement at Wimbledon hanging in the balance.

However, the Brit has reassured fans that she will be able to take on Van Uytvanck after completing a solid training session on Saturday.

Speaking on her injury at the time, Raducanu said: ‘I was like, “This doesn’t feel right at all. And then I was thinking “I don’t know how I am going to do this.” But if you do something in the first game people will be like, “Well why did you walk on to the court?”

‘I definitely tried to get through it but in the second game I called the physio on and at the first changeover she was trying to do some work but even from there she told me it was going to be really difficult to continue.’

Following a positive scan, Raducanu had been diagnosed as having a side strain and was ordered to have a brief period away from the court – ahead of her potential return at Wimbledon.
