Emma Raducanu could lose her British No 1 ranking TODAY as she continues recovery from injury

Emma Raducanu could be set to lose her place as Britain’s No 1 ranked female tennis player.

The former US Open champion is out of action with injury and has struggled for form since winning the Grand Slam in 2021.

She soared up the rankings after her historic Grand Slam win, reaching the top 25 in the world and becoming British number one, with a career high of tenth in the world coming in July 2022.

But Raducanu has since struggled with injury issues, and is currently sidelined with wrist and ankle injuries, leaving her out of action for the rest of the clay season and the whole of the grass season, meaning she will miss Wimbledon.

If Katie Boulter beats Victoria Golubic in the Lexus Surbiton Trophy on Friday, she will move above Raducanu, with Katie Swan able to end the week with more points than both players if she goes on to win the title.

Raducanu started the year ranked world No 78, but retired in the second round of the Auckland Open in January with an ankle issue.

After losing to Coco Gauff in the Australian Open, the Brit took a month off and planned to return at the ATX Open but withdrew due to tonsillitis.

Her wrist issues, which began in 2022, continued, though she enjoyed relative success in the Indian Wells Open with wins over 20th seed Magda Linette and 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.

She then lost in the fist round of the Miami Open and withdrew from the Madrid Open hours before her opening match following a loss at the same stage of the Stuttgart Open. 

Raducanu ultimately underwent surgery on both wrists and her left ankle in a bid to find a long-term solution to her concerns, ruling her out of action for the foreseeable future.

She has also parted ways with her coach, Sebastian Sachs, during her time away from the court. 

Boulter, meanwhile, is ranked 154th in the world but is eyeing the British number one spot. Swan is ranked 150th worldwide.
