2 seasons back East Bengal made its debut in ISL. With Quess no longer the investor for the club, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee helped the club find new investors in the form of Sree Cement. However, the tie-up with the new investors was also bitter-sweet and lasted just 2 years. After the end of the last season, Sree Cements officially ended their ties with the Kolkata club.

East Bengal was also reportedly linked with English Premier League giants Manchester United. Former India team skipper and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly claimed that talks were on with Manchester United. East Bengal also advanced their talks with the Bashundhara group of Bangladesh, but now it seems that Emami would be the best fit for the club.
