Draymond changes course on comments about making Dubs worse originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
It took nearly two weeks, but the Warriors’ level of play isn’t dropping when Draymond Green is on the court anymore.
After the Warriors’ 100-94 win over the San Antonio Spurs — their fourth straight victory — Green amended his comments from March 27.
“I’ve gotten my legs back under me, I’ve got my feel back and I feel like I’m in the flow,” Green told Bonta Hill and Chris Mullin on “Warriors Postgame Live” after the win at AT&T Center on Sunday. “I don’t think I’m making us worse anymore. But I wasn’t lying when I said that. That was true at the time.”
Green finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists against the Spurs, finishing the game a plus-six. He went 6-of-10 from the field, had one steal and one block.
Green’s initial comments came after the Warriors lost to the Washington Wizards at the end of last month. Golden State was mired in a brutal slump that saw them lose seven of eight games and Draymond’s return from a back injury was supposed to be the spark that got them back on track.
“I’m playing terrible,” Green said on March 27 before pausing to gather his thoughts. “I’ve never really been on a team that gets worse when I’m on the floor and that’s kind of where we are right now. Some things I can correct, some things will come with time. Just kind of what it is but we’re definitely worse when I’m on the floor, that’s for sure.”

But Green struggled with his conditioning and wasn’t as effective as he is used to being. From the time he returned to the lineup on March 14 through the Warriors’ loss to the Phoenix Suns on March 30, he averaged 4.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in seven games. At one point, coach Steve Kerr kept Green on the bench for an entire fourth quarter because the unit on the court was playing well.
But Green has turned up his level of play over the last four games, all wins by the Warriors.
This is the Green the Warriors will need with the NBA playoffs beginning next weekend.
