Dr. Martens is hitting the holiday season with three new offerings.
The footwear brand and Swedish label Our Legacy will debut their inaugural collection of the iconic 1461 Oxford, utilizing the Stockholm-based brand’s Work Shop initiative to refit and rework Dr. Martens’ leftover deadstock into all-new pairs.
Committing to Our Legacy Work Shop’s values of upcycling and sustainability, its first collaboration with Dr. Martens features the classic 1461 silhouette, built from reused offcuts of leather from Dr. Martens’ staple tanneries—the Chicago-based Horween Leather Co., and Leeds-based C. F. Stead and Co. From Horween comes the heavyweight Chromexcel leather, which is then combined with deadstock waxed laces and a plain black welt to form the 1461 Black Chromexcel Oxford. The C. F. Stead tannery Desert Oasis Suede in Red Alert is furnished with factory deadstock tonal flat red laces for a bolder offering. Both styles are finished with the Our Legacy yin yang logo on the heel and “Work Shop” embossed on the tongue.
Though Dr. Martens has committed to 100 percent of its footwear to be made from sustainable materials by 2040 and to remove fossil-based chemicals from its products by 2035, current offerings still need to live up to these promises. A sustainability spokesperson for Dr. Martens did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
Handcrafted in Dr. Martens’ Northamptonshire, England factory, the Our Legacy Red Alert Desert Oasis Suede 1461s and Black Chromexcel 1461s are available for $230 at drmartens.com and select partners.
Dr. Martens has also reunited with LA-based subcultural brand Babylon for a customizable collaboration, bringing Babylon’s skate and punk-inspired DIY ethos to Dr. Martens’ iconic oxford.
Inspired by Babylon’s DIY roots, the 1461 Babylon is built with a double-layer upper: a top layer of olive canvas, which can be torn away to reveal a base of premium black Wanama leather. Each pair of 1461 Babylons is designed for scuffing, marking and eventually tearing away the canvas layer to reveal the leather below. Whether scraped away with wear or deliberately pulled off, the 1461 Babylon is designed to be worn and torn however the wearer likes. The shoe is outfitted with Babylon details such as a Babylon logo rip tape badge on the heel counter, an exterior zipper in brushed silver with a Babylon-branded puller, a “Chaos” sole pad print, and finished with Dr. Martens’ signature yellow welt stitching. Finally, after years of testing and improvement, Dr. Martens is releasing its ultimate winter boot.
As the culmination of six decades of innovation and development, the 1460 Trinity Boot features the latest in Dr. Martens’ footwear expertise—combining all its weather-proof technology into one style. Built from waterproof Kaya Nubuck leather over a breathable DryWair waterproof membrane, the Trinity boot ensures protection from the elements down to a waterproof version of Dr. Martens’ signature yellow welt stitch. An insulated WarmWair fleece-lining locks in heat, while the cushioned SoftWair sockliner and moisture-wicking padded collar provide everyday comfort.
