PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers are heading into the 2022-23 season needing to figure some things out when it comes to the rotation. Coach Doc Rivers knows who will be in the starting lineup, but when it comes to the second unit, there are still questions to iron out.

The Sixers have a lot of options they can turn to such as Shake Milton, De’Anthony Melton, Danuel House Jr., Furkan Korkmaz, and Matisse Thybulle, and Rivers will have to decide how to best figure it all out in terms of minutes.

In Wednesday’s preseason finale, Rivers went with a nine-man unit. Montrezl Harrell was the main big man off the bench and the other four bench players were Melton, House Jr., and Georges Niang. Mainstays like Thybulle and Korkmaz didn’t play until the fourth quarter.

“I just wanted to go short today with a nine-man rotation,” said Rivers. “We wanted Trez to play because he didn’t play last game so that was important for us. Still, that’s fluid as well. That will take a while to figure out who should come out first, Tyrese (Maxey) or James (Harden), and who to play with what group, who plays better with what group. That will take a little time.”

The season begins on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics on the road. Rivers will have to try and figure out how the team will look when the real games begin.
