The team announced his firing in a statement to the Free Press. It comes seven months after the Pistons placed Murphy on leave following an investigation into an allegation that he engaged in workplace misconduct with a former female employee.

The accuser is Murphy’s former executive assistant: 32-year-old DeJanai Raska, who detailed her claims in an interview with the Free Press and a lawsuit, alleging Murphy sexually harassed, belittled and abused her while she worked for him in 2021 and 2022.

In a statement to the Free Press late Wednesday, the basketball organization said:

“Rob Murphy no longer works for the Detroit Pistons or Motor City Cruise, in any capacity. Mr. Murphy was recently terminated for violation of company policy and the terms of his employment agreement. The facts that gave rise to his termination surfaced during a review, assisted by a national law firm, of allegations made by a former employee.”

According to the Pistons, after the allegations were made, Murphy “did not return to the workplace prior to his termination.”

The Pistons also note that “because this is a personnel matter, no further details will be forthcoming at this time.”
