After Liverpool, now Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi is being linked with the Barcelona job too, as Xavi Hernandez announced he is leaving at the end of the season.

It has been a dramatic few days in the world of football with statements that are going to inevitably create a domino effect going into next summer.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed he is going to quit Liverpool in June and this evening Xavi Hernandez made the same decision regarding his place on the Barcelona bench.

Curiously, one of the hot favourites in the race for both those benches is Italian De Zerbi, who is currently tied to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 44-year-old has impressed in charge of Brighton and before that his experience at Shakhtar Donetsk was truncated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Pep Guardiola is one of De Zerbi’s biggest fans and could well advise his former club Barcelona to look towards the Italian.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the other candidate for the two jobs is Xabi Alonso, who is currently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen.

However, having spent tome as a player at Liverpool and Real Madrid, the Spaniard is perhaps more likely to end up at Anfield than Camp Nou.

On top of that, the Daily Telegraph suggest that De Zerbi could be on the Manchester United list if Erik ten Hag is sacked.
