Liverpool have been handed a major boost as Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate both returned to training ahead of their Champions League clash with Ajax.

Striker Nunez missed the Reds 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday after tweaking his hamstring during last week’s 1-0 win over West Ham United.

The Uruguayan has returned in what will be a major boost for the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp while defender Konate was also back in training at Liverpool’s Kirkby training base as he continues his return from injury.

The Frenchman has missed Liverpool’s last three matches with a muscle injury while there was no sign of midfielder Thiago during the open training session.

The Spanish midfielder continues to recover from a severe ear infection that forced him to miss out on the Reds defeat to Forest.

Naby Keita was also involved in the training session, but will be unable to play in the Champions League clash, after not being named in their European squad for the first half of the season due to injury.

Defender Joel Matip was also missing from the latest training session while Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Arthur Melo are all long-term injuries, having been ruled out until 2023.

Boss Jurgen Klopp will be without a number of first-team stars as Liverpool take on Ajax in the Champions League.

The Reds can secure progression into the last-16 of the competition, even if they only secure a point at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

Ajax need to secure a win over Liverpool to keep any hopes of progressing alive with them trailing the Reds by six points and Napoli having already progressed into the knock-out stages.
