According to the Premier League and four-time Scottish Premier League title winner, there were certain players with a penchant for sulking, even at high-performance clubs.

The former goal gobbler was speaking on Mail Sport’s potent new podcast It’s All Kicking Off, hosted by Ian Ladyman.

Standing among the most common complainers in his career, he reveals, were Alan Shearer and Neil Lennon.

‘Shearer could moan about a lot of things,’ he said. ‘Especially if the ball wasn’t passed to him or crossed in early enough.

‘Neil Lennon, though, he used to moan at himself in fairness, but he used to moan at everybody else – sort of a blame culture, I think, blame everybody else other than yourself.’

Asked if that sort of culture could ever spread and infected the rest of the dressing room, he said: ”No, I just think it’s an individual thing isn’t it? Everybody has their own different traits.

‘Neil Lennon used to pass the ball around my neck sometmes and then shout “get hold of it!” and eventually the third time I’d tell him what I thought. I was mild-mannered to a point!’

Sutton played with Shearer at Blackburn and Lennon at Celtic in the 1990s and 2000s.

His revelations sprang off the back of the incident between Mo Salah and Jurgen Klopp this weekend, when the Egyptian talisman submitted his entry for tantrum of the year after being hauled off against Chelsea.

Neil Lennon apparently bought into a 'culture of blame' and would point the finger at team-mates even after he made a bad pass!

Salah fumed and discarded the tape around his hand when he was taken off for  Ben Doak, and while he high-fived the youngster, he was ignored by his manager.

Sutton sympathised with the forward, explaining: ‘In my head I would have been saying all sorts of things to the manager. But then I would have realised the effect my actions would have had, and however frustrated a player is, they cannot act in that way.’
