Grant Williams made a bit of a stir soon after his Boston Celtics had been beaten by the Golden State Warriors to win the 2022 NBA Finals when he suggested it was the Dubs’ greater level of experience behind their win.
Asked (c/o CLNS) what the team had learned from last season that they would apply in 2022-23 after the team’s first practice of the season, Williams was quick to connect those dots. “Honestly, it’s the mentality,” began the Tennessee product. “Understanding that mental focus is just as important as the physical discipline that it takes to get back there (to the NBA Finals).”
“In the beginning, the discipline takes coming in every day and treating every day like a finals game, not just at the end of the season,” he explained. “So, that’s our approach from the start.
“Our approach is to come out with a great start, come out with intensity … and come out with the edge,” related the Tennessee product.”
“Even then, we showed that over the last year, we came out kind of sluggish in the beginning. So that’s something that we don’t want to repeat.”
