The suspension of Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving has been extended.
On Saturday, Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn confirmed that Irving will sit out at least one more game and will not return to the lineup when Brooklyn takes on the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. Vaughn did not provide a timeline for Irving’s return.
Irving was suspended at least five games by the Nets earlier this month for his failure to disavow antisemitism after sharing a controversial documentary containing antisemitic material on his Twitter account. Irving was eligible to return against the Lakers Sunday.
Brooklyn’s 110-95 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday marked the fifth game of Irving’s team-imposed suspension. Sunday’s game against the Lakers will be the sixth contest he has missed over the controversy.

Irving met with Brooklyn owner Joe Tsai on Thursday – one of six steps the franchise laid out for Irving to complete in order to be reinstated – signaling that he will return sooner than later.
It’s also possible that Brooklyn didn’t want Irving to return to the team on the road. Sunday’s matchup against the Lakers is the second of a four-game West Coast road trip that ends at the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.
Brooklyn returns home to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 20. The Nets have gone 4-1 during Irving’s suspension and are 6-7 this season.
