Brooklyn Nets’ Mikal Bridges Is ‘excited’ About Current Roster

Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges came to the team as a result of the Kevin Durant trade to the Phoenix Suns at last February’s trade deadline. Since arriving in Brooklyn, Bridges has embraced being in New York and it appears that sentiment has extended to everybody that is currently on the team.

On Sunday, Bridges spoke with Brian Lewis of the New York Post at Bridges’ basketball camp held at Basketball City for kids from as young as six years old to 16 years old. In part, Bridges said that even though Brooklyn’s roster is expected to look like it does right now despite rumors of trading for Damian Lillard or Tyler Herro, he is not only okay with that, but he’s also excited about that possibility.

As of right now, the Nets’ starting five could be Spencer Dinwiddie (assuming that Ben Simmons is not back to his former self by the time next season starts), Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Nic Claxton. That starting five, along with players like Royce O’Neale, Cam Thomas, and Dennis Smith Jr. to name a few, should be good enough to make the play-in tournament.

This roster having a full offseason to build chemistry and push each other to be better during training camp and the preseason should also put the team in a better spot to compete next season. Here’s more of what Bridges had to say about the current roster as told by Lewis:

“Yeah, pretty much, I think so. And I’m pretty excited about it. I mean, I love the guys that we’ve got, just bring everybody back and finally go through preseason and new coaching staff and for Jacque [Vaughn] just to have his preseason and have his coaching staff whoever he wants and put what he wants coming in for him.”
