Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson showed a lot during his short time with the Nets to end the 2022-23 season. He showed an ability to score the basketball even if his three-point shot isn’t falling and that he can be score off-the-dribble as well. However, according to Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report, Johnson’s biggest question mark is his versatility.
Johnson, 27, came to Brooklyn as part of the Kevin Durant trade and upon arriving, Johnson showed more than what Nets fans were anticipating. While Johnson’s three-point accuracy dipped considerably (45.5% with the Phoenix Suns; 37.2% with the Nets), he picked up his rebounding and his on-ball defense.
While Johnson is regarded as a shooter at this point of his career, he flashed some ability to score the basketball off the dribble, especially in their first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers. Johnson has been trying to improve the weaker areas of his offensive games and that will only pay dividends for Brooklyn moving forward. Here’s what Bailey had to say about Johnson’s biggest question mark:
“Cameron Johnson is a bona fide weapon as a floor-spacer and shooter. His 6’8″ frame is part of what makes him a solid, switchable defensive option, too. But under a new, more restrictive cap environment, teams are likely going to save their biggest contracts for players who can also reliably create for themselves and others.”
