Boston Celtics will likely look inward to address Gallinari’s injury absence before adding players

The Boston Celtics might be able to use a disabled player exception (DPE) to sign or trade for a player making up to $3.2 million in the wake of the Danilo Gallinari injury news. That is, of course, if the team applies to the league for the exception, as the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach reports they likely will.

Don’t expect Boston to be in a hurry to find a player to use it on, though, if the league grants an exception.

According to the Globe reporter’s sources, “second-year forward Sam Hauser, a 6-8 sharpshooter, will have an opportunity to grab a spot in the regular rotation with Gallinari out.”

Himmelsbach’s sources also expect Grant Williams to pick up some of the slack.

Additionally, the Globe writer adds Boston may “make further tweaks to account for Gallinari’s absence” after seeing “how things unfold at training camp, where veteran frontcourt players Noah Vonleh, Bruno Caboclo, Luke Kornet and Mfiondu Kabengele will battle for opportunities.”
