While it might not exactly be free agency fireworks, more reporting about the Boston Celtics’ interest during the start of the NBA’s 2023 free agency period has come to light via new reporting from NBA Big Board’s Rafael Barlow.
Per Barlow, the Celtics have elected to meet with former Toronto Raptors unrestricted free agent point guard Dalano Banton. Banton, a 23-year-old, 6-foot-9 floor general who has played two seasons in a deep reserve role for the Raptors, signals a potential need in the backcourt for floor generalship that may presage other moves the Celtics may be working towards finalizing.
Banton’s height stands out as the primary attraction as the rest of such a signing would be an upside play given the Canadian point guard averaged 4.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game with Toronto last season in 9.0 minutes of floor time while shooting 42.3% overall, 29.4% from 3, and 70.8% from the line.
