Aston Villa are hoping to wrap up a deal to sign Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna by the end of Thursday, according to reports.

The Argentina international has been linked with a move to the Premier League for much of the summer transfer window, and Villa now appear set to secure his signature.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the club will begin a new round of talks with Sevilla today to try and agree a fee for the 31-year-old.

Personal terms have already been settled with Acuna as Unai Emery attempts to continue a summer of heavy investment in his squad.

The Spaniard has already signed Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby and is looking for further defensive additions after Tyrone Mings suffered a serious knee injury in the 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.

The left-back assisted Youssef En-Nesyri’s opening goal in Athens as the game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

The former Sporting man enjoyed a remarkable 2022-23 season in which he won the World Cup with Argentina and the Europa League with Sevilla.

He is now set to join Emery’s blossoming project at Villa Park.
