Arne Slot signs a new long-term deal with Dutch champions Feyenoord just 24 hours after snubbing a move to Tottenham, with the north London club still searching for a new boss

Arne Slot has penned a new long-term deal with Dutch champions Feyenoord which will keep him at the club until 2026. 

The Dutchman had held exploratory talks with Tottenham over a move to bring Slot to the Premier League next season, with the north London club still without a long-term replacement for Antonio Conte. 

Slot, together with his agent Rafaela Pimenta, met with Feyenoord chiefs on Wednesday for crucial talks with regards his future, subsequently signing the new long-term deal.

The 44-year-old led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title this season, was a front runner for the Spurs vacancy, but ruled himself out of contention this week – pledging to stay and continue his journey in Rotterdam. 

Slot said on Wednesday:  ‘I have been hearing a lot of rumours going around about other interest in me,’ said Slot.

‘There is not – and there has not been – transfer conversation and yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. Looking forward to next season with Feyenoord.’

Slot was appointment manager of the Dutch side in December 2020, after leaving his first managerial post with AZ Alkmaar.  

The Dutchman joins former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso in ruling themselves out of the running for the Spurs post.

Cristian Stellini initially took charge of the first-team following Conte’s departure, but he was quickly removed after Tottenham’s 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle in April. 

Ryan Mason has taken temporary charge as interim boss, but only to the end of the season, leaving Spurs still seeking a permanent replacement for their former Italian boss. 

The club are said to be keen on Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi after he guided the Seagulls into the Europa League, while it is thought Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou and Luis Enrique are still in the frame for the job.
