Coined by the late Kobe Bryant as an endearing term representing his overwhelming love and support for his four daughters, the “Girl Dad” hashtag has been widely popularized posthumously in homage to the pride and confidence Bryant instilled within his kin. From NBA athletes to everyday fathers, last night #GirlDad appeared on the hardwood via Obi Toppin’s Player Exclusive Air Jordan 37 Lows.
The Knicks’ former No. 8 pick in the 2020 draft became the first player from his class to sign an endorsement deal with Jordan Brand the following February. Having dressed a number of PEs throughout his three-year career, Toppin looked to his one-year-old daughter, Remiel, for an honorary construction. Coating the near entirety of the low-tops upper exclusively in a pitch-black suede, lively pinks begin to dress the silhouette’s aforementioned accents. Infusing a medley of soft pink stitching throughout the various panels, the latter pastel further collects along the trim of the heel tab, sole unit and laces while a velvet bow sits at the base of pink and black dipped laces. Rendering “Remi” on the medial tongue in a cursive font, seldom golden hits provide a premium finish along the lace tips, the tongue’s Jumpman logo and the heel’s appearance of the popular hashtag.
