India lost to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final in Adelaide on November 9. This brought about an end to yet another World Cup campaign for India. In the end, India was close but not close enough to lift the title for the second time. India’s wait to lift the title continues as they look forward to the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the US.

Jos Buttler and Alex Hales made light work of the run chase as they added 170 runs in 16 overs. The stand was the highest-ever in T20 World Cups and the second-highest for any wicket against India in T20I cricket.

The Indian openers let themselves down in the semi-final and throughout the World Cup. The bowlers were also not adept to the conditions and could not challenge England’s openers at all who went about their business in their own merry way.

Rahul ended the T20 World Cup campaign with just 128 runs from six innings averaging 21.33. He scored two fifties but his scores against the top teams in the tournament were poor. He scored 3(8) vs Pakistan, 18(16) vs New Zealand, 4(8) vs Pakistan, 9(14) vs South Africa, and 5 (5) vs England.

In the process, he has proved that he is not a big-match player and does not have the ability to handle pressure as well. Rahul is not a part of India’s T20I squad that will play against the Kiwis. He is however a part of the ODI and Test squads for the Bangladesh tour.
